In recent work I explore the marginal and invisible - with an aesthetic that is not purely compositional but relates also to scientific observation. I look at ecological geographies which trace both human and earth-based imprints at specific locales including Shoshone, CA and Ash Meadows, NA, recording details in saline meadows and evaporite pools that are endemic and marginal.
Using a performative approach, where gesture becomes the image, large two foot by 3 foot prints on board are replaced back into the landscape, using GPS coordinates. This occurs periodically to record the changing seasons. The aesthetic has moved from the ‘sublime’ to the cyclical - speaking now of 'wild stuff in its own place' (Rebecca Solnit).
